Using the data responsibly
Most of the serious questions we get are about what you can do with a match. Start with our compliance page. Then read what to do with identified visitors. If you are looking at several tools, our vendor guide lists the questions to ask each of them, including us.
Common questions
Who is Leafprint for?
Licensed cannabis businesses and the agencies that serve them, including dispensaries, multi-location operators, brands, and delivery services.
Who makes Leafprint?
Gold Standard Solutions, a cannabis retail marketing agency. The product name is Leafprint by The Gold Standard.
What does the pixel record?
Activity on your site, such as pages viewed, clicks, scrolling, video plays, form submissions, text copied, referring source, IP address, device, browser, approximate location, and time zone.
What information can a match include?
It can include a name, email addresses, phone numbers, age range, job title, company, and location, depending on what data providers hold. Not all fields appear on every profile.
How much does it cost?
Your first 500 identities are free, for up to 2 weeks, whichever comes first. After that, Leafprint is $0.25 per identified lead, and you can estimate your spending in the calculator.
What match rate should I expect?
We do not quote one. It varies by site and audience. The best way to find out is to measure it on your own traffic for a defined period.
Can I use it if I am not a Gold Standard client?
Yes. You can use the software on its own, or combine it with our agency services if you want that help.
How do I log in?
Existing customers can log in through the portal link at the top of this site.
How do I contact you?
Email [email protected] or use the demo request form.
What is Leafprint?
Leafprint by The Gold Standard is identity resolution software for cannabis businesses. It uses a website pixel to record visitor activity and may match visits to profile information from data providers, then shows the results in a web portal.
Can I text the people Leafprint identifies?
Not on the strength of the match alone. A matched phone number is not consent to receive marketing texts. You still need written consent that meets the rules that apply to you, and we recommend reviewing your program with counsel.
Do I need to replace my menu or loyalty system?
No. Leafprint sits alongside the tools you already use. You add a pixel to your site, and you can send records elsewhere through webhooks if you want them in another system.
Does every visitor get identified?
No. A visit can only be matched when a provider holds information that corresponds to it, so some visitors will stay anonymous. The share varies by site and audience, which is why our calculator asks for your own assumption.
Are those screenshots real?
Yes. They come from a live account, with every name, number, and account detail blurred before capture. The Company ID example uses sample data.
How accurate are the matches?
Match data comes from third-party providers, so quality varies by record. We do not publish an accuracy figure. Spot-check profiles against customers you know, and verify anything you plan to act on.
Does a visitor have to fill out a form?
No. The pixel can attempt a match without a form submission. That is why disclosure in your privacy policy matters, because the visitor has not handed you the information directly.
Can a visitor opt out?
They should be able to. Your privacy policy should explain how to opt out or request deletion, and your team needs a process for honoring those requests.
Who should use Company ID?
Anyone selling to other businesses in cannabis, such as brands, distributors, vendors, and agencies. Dispensaries selling to consumers will usually spend more time in Visitor Data.
Does Company ID show the person who visited?
It shows the company. A person appears only if the visit also matched a profile in Visitor Data, so the two views can tell different parts of the story.
Should my rep mention the visit?
Usually not. It tends to work better as a timing signal. Send something useful instead of telling a prospect that you noticed them on your website.
Does this replace my web analytics tool?
No. Keep it for detailed funnels and historical reporting. Leafprint adds the question of who the traffic may be, which standard analytics tools are not designed to answer.
Why do my visit totals differ between tools?
Tools define and filter sessions differently, and timing or ad blockers can affect counts too. Compare each tool against its own history and look at trends instead of exact matches.
How often should we check the reports?
A short weekly review works well for most retail teams. Check more often during a major promotion or a campaign launch, when you want to catch problems quickly.
Is an Orbit audience a list I can text?
No. An audience does not provide consent for marketing texts. Text messages need written consent that meets the rules you operate under, whatever the source of the audience.
How do I find out whether Orbit fits my market?
Ask during a demo. We can walk through your stores, markets, and goals, and explain what is available for your account.
How should I evaluate an intent audience?
Run a small test with a clear success measure decided in advance. Intent data is a signal, so results are the real proof that an audience works for you.
Do I need a developer to use webhooks?
Not always. An automation tool that accepts incoming webhooks can often do the job. Either way, someone should test the connection with a sample record before you rely on it.
Can I connect webhooks to my SMS platform?
We advise against a direct connection. A matched number is not consent, so add a step that checks for written consent you collected yourself before anything is sent.
What happens to data after it leaves Leafprint?
It becomes your responsibility inside your own systems. Limit access, set a retention period, and make sure opt-out and deletion requests reach every destination.
Will the pixel slow down my site?
It loads asynchronously, so it should not hold up the page. It is still good practice to check your site speed after adding any third-party script.
Does it work on my menu platform?
That depends on whether the platform allows custom scripts on its pages. Ask your provider. If it does not, the pixel can only see the pages you control.
Why was my script blocked?
A strict content security policy can block scripts it does not list. Add the pixel address from your portal to the policy, then test again.
Can a single store get value from this?
It depends on your traffic. Pricing is per identified lead, so costs follow volume. Use the calculator with your own visitor numbers to see whether the estimate makes sense for you.
Will this replace my loyalty program?
No. Loyalty captures people who chose to join, and it remains the foundation for your direct marketing. Leafprint helps you understand everyone else and find ways to earn more signups.
Who at the store should own it?
Whoever handles your marketing, even part time. A short weekly check is enough to start, and it does not require a dedicated analyst.
Should we roll out to every state at once?
We suggest starting with one or two markets. That gives you a chance to confirm legal review, build the reporting habit, and adapt the playbook before you expand.
Can store managers see profile data?
Decide this based on need. Many store teams only need page trends and summaries, and limiting access to personal information reduces risk.
How do we handle state differences?
Keep a simple matrix of what counsel approved in each state, including channels, privacy language, and who handles requests. Review it before each launch.
Can we share what we learn with retailers?
Aggregated trends are the safer option, such as interest in a product line. Do not share personal data about individuals unless your legal review and privacy notice clearly permit it.
Does this show which consumers bought our product?
No. It shows activity on your own website. Sales through retailers happen elsewhere, so treat site interest as a signal and not as a sales figure.
What if visitors are in states where we do not sell?
They can still appear in your data. Limit outreach to markets where your product and your marketing are allowed, and check age requirements on each channel.
Can this tell me why someone did not order?
Not directly. It shows where people went and where they left, which tells you where to look. You will still need to test changes to find the actual reason.
Does it help with delivery zone targeting?
Approximate location can show whether traffic comes from areas you serve. It is approximate, so use it for patterns, not for decisions about individual addresses.
Where should we collect SMS consent?
At checkout and in account signup, with clear consent language reviewed by counsel. Those are natural moments for customers to agree to messages.
Who should own the client's data?
Agree on this in writing before installation. The client usually carries the legal obligations for their own site, so they need to understand and accept how the data gets handled.
Can we reuse data across clients?
No. Keep each client account separate, and do not use one client's visitors in another client's campaigns.
What should we avoid promising?
Do not promise specific match rates, and do not suggest that identification creates permission to send texts. Commit to the work and to outcomes you control.
How long does setup take?
Adding the script is usually quick for whoever manages your website. Allow time for your privacy policy update and legal review, which should happen first.
Where does match information come from?
From third-party data providers connected to the platform. Your privacy policy should disclose that visits may be matched to information held by those providers.
What if a visit does not match?
The activity is still recorded and counts toward your traffic view, but no profile appears for that visit. Pricing is based on identified leads.
What counts as an identified lead?
A visit matched to a profile. We confirm exactly how leads are counted for your account during the demo, so you can see it clearly before committing.
Is there a free trial?
Your first 500 identities are free, for up to 2 weeks, whichever comes first. After that, pricing is $0.25 per identified lead.
Can I set a spending limit?
Bring this up in your demo. Since cost follows identified leads, we can talk through your traffic and how to keep spending predictable.
Is visitor identification legal?
It depends on where you and your visitors are, how you disclose it, and what you do with the data. We cannot answer that for your business, so review your specific plans with counsel.
Does the pixel use cookies?
Do not assume either way from this page. If a technical detail matters for your legal review, ask us during your demo and include counsel in the conversation.
Do you sign data agreements?
Raise your requirements during the demo. Your counsel should review any terms and data agreement that apply before you install the pixel.
Can identity resolution replace my loyalty program?
No. Loyalty gives you a relationship, permission, and usually purchase history. Identity resolution gives you insight into people who have not joined.
Can I add identified visitors to my loyalty list?
Not without their consent. Enrolling someone in messaging based on a match skips the agreement that makes the program work.
Which comes first?
Usually loyalty, because it provides direct value and a permission-based audience. Add identification when you want to understand who your program misses.
Which is better for cannabis?
It depends on the goal. Retargeting keeps you visible where ad channels accept cannabis. Identity resolution suits research and B2B account work.
Does retargeting show me who visited?
Usually not. You typically see aggregated campaign results. The ad network holds the audience, and you do not receive individual identities.
Is a match a way around ad restrictions?
No. Contacting someone directly carries its own rules, including written consent for marketing texts. Treat it as a separate decision with separate requirements.
Can I cancel my analytics tool?
We do not recommend it. Keep it for detailed measurement and history, since Leafprint's reporting is focused on visitors and sources.
Can I send matched names into my analytics tool?
Check that tool's terms first. Many analytics products restrict or prohibit personal information, so sending it could violate their rules.
Why don't the totals match?
Tools define and filter visits differently. Small gaps are normal, so focus on trends within each tool.
What is identity resolution in marketing?
It is the process of connecting data points from different channels and devices to one profile of a person or company, so a marketer can understand who is behind separate interactions.
Is identity resolution the same as visitor identification?
Visitor identification is one form of it. It focuses on connecting anonymous website traffic to a person or company, while identity resolution also covers merging records a business already holds.
What is an identity graph?
It is a reference set that maps how identifiers such as emails, devices, and addresses relate to people or companies. Matching systems compare incoming signals against it.
Is identity resolution legal?
It depends on where you and your visitors are, how you disclose it, and how you use the data. Review your specific plans with counsel, since state laws differ.
Can you see who visited your website?
Sometimes. Analytics tools show aggregate behavior, reverse IP lookup can reveal some companies, and identity graph tools may match some visits to people. No method identifies every visitor.
Is it possible to identify every anonymous visitor?
No. Coverage depends on your audience, location, and available data, and privacy tools reduce it further. Treat claims of near-total identification with skepticism and test on your own traffic.
